Tried and Tested: Drugstore Hair Care

During the last months I bought some new hair products, mostly because my now partly blond hair needs special care. As some of you already asked about the straightening cream when I showed it to you in a "New In" post, I decided to make a review featuring the other products as well. I bought all of them at the German drugstore dm so not all of the products will be available for you but at least the John Frieda Sheer Blonde deep conditioner should be available in most of the countries.

Balea Oil Repair Shampoo

I basically bought this shampoo because it says to be helpful when you have really damaged and dry hair and that it prevents loss of hair. I've been using it for a few weeks and here's what I found out so far:
Pros:
- without silicones
- good price
- contains argan oil
 Cons:
- doesn't foam as much as other shampoos (but still more than the Body Shop products I've been using before)
Conclusion:
I couldn't say whether the shampoo really works or not because I have a lot of hair loss at the moment. Also if my hair isn't dry it will probably rather be because of the conditioner or deep conditioner I use.

Balea Blond Conditioner

Wanting to stay with the Balea range I opted for their blond conditioner.

Pros:
- without silicones
- leaves my hair really soft
- good price
Cons:
/
Conclusion:
I couldn't see a result of shinier hair which was advertised on the bottle but I think I never had softer hair!

John Frieda Sheer Blonde Deep Conditioner

I also wanted to buy a deep conditioner but Balea didn't have a good size but only these sachets. I went for John Frieda because the price seemed okay to me and I had heard a lot about the brand.

Pros:
- it makes my hair really manageable which was quite necessary after dying it
Cons:
/
Conclusion:
The longer you leave it on your hair it the more it will help! If I didn't have the Balea conditioner and if it weren't a bit more expensive than normal conditioners I would use it as conditioner and deep conditioner alike. It also says that you can either use it every day for 3-5 minutes or once a week for about 15 minutes.

Balea Trend It Up Straightening Cream

So far for straightening my hair I've tried creams and sprays and as I definitely preferred the creams I decided to get this one which was even cheaper than the one I had before.

Pros:
- you won't need much to protect your hair and it's easier to distribute than a spray
- good price
Cons:
- I wasn't sure but had the feeling that it left my hair a bit greasy.
Conclusion:
I will probably continue preferring straightening creams but I'm not sure if this one is the ultimate product I will stick to. Also I'm not sure about the straightening effect but it may also be that my hair is harder to straighten now that it is dyed.

All in all it was a bit difficult to value these products as my hair reacts quite differently now that it's been dyed. Also I find it quite hard to see differences between several shampoos as they don't have such an immediate effect as conditioners. However I hope that my review was helpful in some way nevertheless. Also I´m still a beginner when it comes to caring for blond hair so I would be glad to hear your advices.

P.S.: If you're interested in other Balea hair care products (for example for brown hair) you could also read this post.

  3. It's funny, (at the supermarket) the hair products with packaging that I'm drawn to are very often for blond hair upon closer inspection.... which I don't have :/

  4. I wonder if these cosmetics would work on curly hair too?

  5. Damn, so it seems like most of these products don't really work, although I wonder if you need longer than a month to see results? Oh well, the hunt for a decent hair product me for me continues.

Something gross though, I used to put onion juice on my scalp. Makes your hair SO soft!
