Cleaning your cosmetic brushes from time to time (once a week if you use them often) is really important in order to keep your skin clean when applying make-up. So far I haven't done it often enough but I also didn't have the right soap. Last week I bought this Barbara Hofman soap at my local perfumery Douglas for about 10€. I wasn't too happy about the price but I wasn't sure where to get a cheaper soap, maybe you know good online shops for such things? However even if I haven't been busy at cleaning my brushes until now, I got some tips on how to do it right in a make-up workshop I attended last winter. So here we go:
It's important to use soaps without alcohol so the hair of the brush doesn't dry out and break.
Use tepid water to foam the soap and then scrub the brush in the palm of your hand.
If you have brushes with wood handles you should take care that the water doesn't run into the handle because otherwise the wood might burst. Dry the brushes at room temperature on an absorbent cloth. Don't dry them with a hairdryer or on a radiator as this may lead to loss of the naural fat content of the hair.
After using the soap I can say that it's really effective and easy to use. Furthermore it has a lovely lemony smell. The only bad thing is the price but therefore the soap should last for a while.
Do you clean your brushes regularly and if yes do you use special soaps or something else?
